The Newhills Medical Practice aims to ensure that anyone contacting the surgery has guaranteed access to a GP, nurse or other health care professional within 48hrs in accordance with their clinical need.

Before Making an Appointment

You may wish to consider whether you need a face to face consultation with a GP.   Some problems such as urine infections, rashes, emergency contraception etc. can be dealt with by our Nurse Practitioners who can prescribe medication if necessary.  This will free up more time for GP appointments for addressing more difficult problems.

Your local pharmacy may also offer a minor illness service where over the counter medication can be issued free of charge to patients who are exempt from prescription charges.  For patients who are not exempt, medication for some minor illnesses are inexpensive to buy.  You may find it more convenient to pop into your local chemist at a time that suits you.

Telephone Access in the Morning

As we operate a mostly on the day appointment system the lines are very busy between 08:30 and 09:30.  We now have 5 lines operating at these times and will continue to monitor the telephone lines.  If you are not telephoning for an on the day appointment you may wish to telephone later in the morning or in the afternoon.  If you are phoning for a prescription please call our prescription line direct on 0141 531 8177

Training Practice

We are a training practice.  As part of ongoing training we may need to ask patients to complete questionnaires, agree to video consultations or allow medical students to be present during consultations.  We hope that you will co-operate and help us.  If your help is required you will be informed prior to your consultation.  If you would prefer not to participate your wishes will be respected.

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
